My big worry towards the UVF is it sounds like the British want to use them as line of comunication troops. So what I figure the UVF will do is in three
parts.
1) They will go looking for "papist" "traitors" and since all catholic are by their nature Papists they are also Traitors... So we will
see some very heavy handed attempts to search villages, towns and cities for "papist traitors." Blood shed is going to follow.
2) When the IRA actual does things in the area... like cutting telograph lines, dynimating the railroad tracks or snipping people the UVF is going to do more
of #1 but even more heavy handed.
3) If the UVF and IRA actual meet expect an ugly brawl folled by the UVF shooting any thing that moves.
I possible good model for this is what happened in Yugoslavia during the break up.
We have a cycle here I think. Neither the UVF or IRA is what I would call a disciplined force and in war time in even tightly disciplined armies loot, murder
and rape their way across the country side. I would exect the UVF to do just this, sparking civilians and IRA to hit back and things to go down hill from
there. In the background we have a battered and pissed off British Army that already doesn't much care for the Catholic Irish and London has been blabing
to the world they are going to shoot the traitors, I don't see the officers or NCO's making the effort when it matters (IE very early) to keep the UVF
in line. As an aside the German army in WW2 did lots of very barbaric things but it was a slow spiral as the soldiers figured out the leadership didn't
care, were given some brutal orders and received brutal response in the case of the Eastern Front.
No Tom intentional or not has created a mix thats going to look like something out of WW2 eastern front I suspect if given enough time. No clue how long that
takes mind you but the elements are there....
