Outside of the Spanish American War, when is the earlist Germany had a chance at attempting to get control of the Philippines? Is it possible that Germany could some how buy the Philippines from Spain in 1884 when Bismarck goes on his one year splurg of colony founding?

Looking at who else was building Dreadnaughts and who else would have the disposition amd or capacity to build for other 2^nd tear Naval Nations Say the Ottomans.

Borys piqued my curiousity earlier when he mentioned something about Benes (Czech leader) and the Poles having some sort of agreement regarding defense. Did I interpret this incorrectly? Was there ever any talk of this, did it actually have some substance, or have I misunderstood it quite completely?

Kamish in Turkish - whazzit? And other questions

Ahoj!
I've noticed that -kamish appears as a suffice in Turkik placenames.
The fact that is used for a lake - Sary-Kamysh - makes me wonder, could it be "reeds"? Or "riverbank vegetation"?

A nowadays rarely used Polish word "komysze", and Russian "kamyshej" (no idea of how widespread it is) means exactly that thing.

Considering that a courtyard is "maidan", loose pants "szarawary" and a black horse is...

WI Germans use gas at the Normandy beaches ?

I can see that in most other areas of the war, the use of gas would have made no great difference other than to provide new ways to die and kill each other, but nothing of any strategic significance. But at the Normandy beaches, if the defenders had used gas, and especially if this had been kept secret from the Allies, was the capability there to make a great diference to the course of events ?

I've always been a huge fan of the QE class Fast Battleships.

Now in our Jutland the RN had 4 of these magnificent ships, who rushed to the aid of the Beaty's Battlecruiers who were taking a pounding from the German Battlecruisers. And they managed to drive them off as i recall.
